NEWSClub Champs Draw is now available to viewMore Success for Belmont JuniorsNZ Secondary Schools Squash Nationals The Westlake Boys squash team won the very prestigious National title as the NZ #1 school from the 32 schools competing in the boys division. Westlake Boys has 3 members from Belmont Park, namely Rafa Yam (team captain), Matthew Lucente and Gabe Yam. The Westlake Boys Premiere 2 team who were seeded 8th coming into the tournament likewise exceeded expectations and confirms the strength of Westlake squash after finishing 7th overall. They upset 7th seeds Hamilton Boys High School for the playoffs for 7th-8th place. Premiere 2 team has a junior boy from Belmont Park Tom Taylor as its 5th seeded player and the parent team manager is Lynda Taylor who is also a member of Belmont Park. Both teams were coached by Belmont squash coach Manu Yam. Takapuna Grammar School also competed in the tourney and finished 16th overall with 4 players from Belmont Park namely Harvey Malva, Chris Alvey, Michael Laws and Chris Pirie with the other 2 players coming from Devonport Club namely Logan Forbes and Ben Edwards. The team was managed by Belmont Club member Bruce Alvey. Another school Long Bay College which competed in the girls division also had Belmont's top junior girl Lauren Crowhurst as its top player and the school finished 10th overall. NZ Squash Nationals in October Four Belmont juniors have also been selected in the Auckland Junior Team for the Nationals in October, namely Rafa Yam, Matthew Lucente, Gabe Yam and Lauren Crowhurst (girls). Top squash player Rafa Yam, 16, from Westlake Boys High School, is the No 3 ranked Under-17 player in New Zealand. SQUASH AUCKLAND AWARDS 2014 has been a great year of squash at the club. The club was recognised twice at the recent Squash Auckland Awards. Michelle MacGibbon won “Volunteer of the Year” and Matthew Lucente won “Young Sportsman of the Year” – clearly justifiable awards for both Michelle and Matthew.

RAFA YAM – 2013 YOUNG SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR
NATIONALS 2013 Two Belmont boys made the Auckland Junior Team for the Nationals 2013. The team finished 4th in NZ overall. Congratulations! Henry Pyc is standing in the middle and Rafa Yam is second from the right, being the youngest member of the team at 15 years old. JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPS The club’s Junior Squash Champs, sponsored by Taylor Made Insurance Solutions, were played from 19-22 September. There were 43 entries in 7 divisions – an absolutely fantastic turnout. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially to those who made finals. The majority of finals were played on Sunday afternoon, and resulted in some sensational squash, watched by a great crowd. The results were as follows:
BELMONT JUNIOR, RAFA YAM'S SUCCESS Belmont member Rafa Yam has experienced success at the recent Secondary School Nationals held in Hamilton in mid August 2013. He was part of the Westlake Boys High School team that finished second overall. This was an amazing achievement for the boys as they finished above their seeding of 3rd.
Rafa Yam was also selected to be part of the NZ junior representative team (years 9-10) to play in the Trans-Tasman tri series in Palmerston North. TERM 1 JETS RESULTS Congratulations to our two Jet League winners for Term 1:
We had some other good results as well in the first term: Boys league – Belmont Blazers, captained by Chris Laws, finished 3rd overall Girls league – Belmont girls finished joint 3rd overall, captained by Sienna Norman F graduates league – Belmont boys Chris Diggle finished 2nd and Chris Pirie finished 3rd overall. JETS TERM 4 2012 FINALS This is the fourth straight term that Belmont won the boys cup and swept it this year, 2012. The Blazers team beat another Belmont team – Ballers team captained by Patrick Calver for the cup finals. A great year indeed for the Belmont junior boys.
In the E league cup, another Belmont junior Christopher Alvey finished runner up. JETS REGIONAL FINALS RESULTS The Belmont Blazers team, winners of the Northern Jets term 3 boys competition beat the Franklin Black Pearls, winners of the Southern Jets 4-0. An impressive and convincing win and this is the 3rd straight term that Belmont won the regionals Jets finals.

The Belmont Bombers team (which won the Northern Jets last term... see below) have taken out the Auckland Regional Championships winning against Eden Epson 9-4 in the finals. A great achievement for the boys and the club for being the best Jets Boys team in Auckland. Congratulations!
AUTUMN SENIOR PENNANTS RESULTS – APRIL 2012 Ladies 1 Team (Capt - Tracey Hartley) First place Womens 04 JUNIORS JETS RESULTS – TERM 1 2012 Boys division - Bombers team (captained by Michael Laws) won the overall title. The cup goes back to Belmont and Belmont has won it a record 10 times. The Bombers team dominated the whole term and in spite of injuries to some of them and other commitments from most of the boys.
Girls division - Belmont girls finished a very close second to NorthShore losing the cup by only 1 point ( 31 to 30 overall points ). Team captain was Epernay Norman. WANT TO GIVE SQUASH A TRY?
