Another Club First in Squash!

As mentioned in the last newsletter, our club recently won its first National Squash Superchamps title with our men’s E Grade team.

Now we have won our first Auckland Squash “Club of the Year” award, announced on 10 November at the Squash Auckland Excellence Awards.

In addition to winning this award, the club secured four other major awards:

Coach of the Year – Manu Yam
Young Sportsman of the Year – Gabe Yam
Young Sportswoman of the Year – Natalie Sayes, and
Sportsman of the Year – Matthew Lucente

Squash Auckland Excellence Awards

Following on from the above successes:

  • Manu Yam has been selected one of the finalists for “NZ Performance Coach of the Year”, and
  • Gabe Yam has been selected as one of the finalists for “NZ Most Improved Senior Male Player of the Year”.

The winners of these awards will be announced on 1 December in Auckland. Good luck Manu and Gabe!

New Club Sponsors

I’m delighted to announce the club has secured two new sponsors:

  • Victoria Mules and Jemma Glancy from Harcourts Devonport, and
  • Glenn Read and his business, Quartz Wealth

Vic & Jemma and Harcourts Devonport
Vic and Jemma combine their vast and varied experiences in marketing, communications, finance, and event management, to offer a fresh, honest and modern approach to helping you through the process of both buying and selling your home. They also love to have fun on the tennis court and are very excited to be sponsoring the club.

They pride themselves on working in the best interest of the client and have both entered into real estate with a passion for helping people without the usual stress associated with buying or selling a house.

If you want an honest, fresh, hard-working and determined team working to get the best results for you and your property … Choose Vic & Jemma.

If you want to play doubles against a team who like to have a laugh rather than win the game on the tennis court … Choose Vic & Jemma.

Ray and Aly Adams MXD tournament
This annual tournament is being held on Sunday 25 November, starting 1 pm. Just email Rex Grey at or text him on 021 0293 7884 to enter.

Saturday junior coaching
We’ve had great turnouts to the Saturday morning junior tennis coaching sessions. Vic & Jemma have booked the Harcourts “Coffee and Cone” truck to be at the club on Saturday 8 December. We will also be putting the BBQ on, so it will be a great final morning of junior coaching before the Xmas break.

Also, with Xmas gifts on everyone's minds, Mark and Jo Nielsen have some great deals in their pro shop. Plus, their annual 3-hour sale starts 9am on Saturday, 1st December with prices smashed and big discounts, so make sure you have a look at what’s available.

Junior tennis interclub
One of our new junior tennis interclub teams has made a great start to their competitive careers. The U10 team of Patrick Li, Flynn Proffit, Luther Watkins, Oscar Beech, JJ Blake and Ethan Clifton have won 3 of their 4 games and are looking great prospects for the playoffs.

Well done to their manager, David Blake, and the team for their great start and even better look!

Squash News

The 2018 junior and senior squash prizegiving will be held at the club on Wednesday, 28 November, starting 6.30pm.

Even if you’re not a trophy or prize winner, there is a lot to celebrate this year, such as Auckland Squash Club of the Year, so all graded squash players are strongly encouraged to attend the prizegiving.
