President's Ramble

The driveway project is nearly finished!

The driveway and carpark upgrade is nearing completion. Landscaping is well underway behind the tennis courts, with new feature trees now planted. The driveway sealing is expected to be completed by mid-May, with carpark marking occurring after this.

A big thank you to everyone for being so patient with the temporary access.

The project hasn’t affected the form of a number of our senior tennis interclub teams, with no less than seven teams winning their pennant for the 2018/19 season. This is a truly remarkable performance – a club first, which will be celebrated at our end of season senior tennis prizegiving.

Hello from Vic & Jemma!

We are really excited to sponsor the club and spend time with the lovely community at the club.  Everyone always wants to know … “what’s happening in the market’ and with it changing week to week at the moment there is never really an exact answer.  But what we do know is that properties in the area which are solid, well presented and with no building consent issues are all selling well and in a normal timeframe of around one month on the market.  We focus heavily on helping you present your home perfectly for market as well as marketing it with a fresh and honest approach.

We look forward to catching up with some of you either on the court or in the clubhouse soon.

Senior Club Champs

Our senior tennis club champs are nearing the finals weekends of 4-5 and 11-12 May. This year we’ve had 82 entrants playing nearly 150 matches over 6 weeks – an incredible achievement. Please look out for updates to finals match schedules. These will be posted on the website, Facebook and in the clubhouse.

The senior prizegiving will be held on Saturday 15 June at the club. More details will follow, but we plan for this to be a significant celebration of our tennis achievements this season, as well as recognize our 2018/19 club champions.

Winter Interclub

For those interested in playing senior winter interclub tennis, competition starts next month. Follow this link to find out more about entering a team

The club does not usually help with managing winter interclub entries. Teams should enter themselves and pay their own entry fees and balls. If you are interested in playing but am not sure who to contact, email the club and we will try to fit you into a team if possible.

More Junior Squash Success

In March the NZ national doubles tournament was played in Auckland. Belmont’s Ella Lash and Ashlee Pepper were bottom seeds in the tough Women’s Open division. However, impressive wins over more experienced and higher graded opponents enabled the pair to finish in 3rd place. An amazing effort given they were playing doubles together for the first time!

Congratulations Ella and Ashlee!

Ella and Ashlee

During the April school holidays, several prestigious junior squash tournaments have been played, both here and in Australia.

Before Easter, the Trans-Tasman Junior Test Series was held in Auckland, with 5 club members; Natalie Sayes, Ella Lash, Riley McCracken, Elijah Thomas and Gabe Yam, representing NZ and helping us to a 2-0 win across the age groups.

The Oceania Junior Champs followed the test series, with Oceania titles going to the following members:

-          Gabe Yam beating Anthony Lepper (new member) to win the U19 Boys title in 4 games

-          Elijah Thomas winning the U17 Boys title in 4 games (after losing the 1st 2-11)

-          Natalie Sayes winning the U15 Girls title in 3 games

-          Zoe Lepper (new member) beating Grace Spencer to win the U11 Girls final in 4 games

Congratulations go to the following members for their achievements in these champs:

Ella Lash - U15 Girls 3rd place; Madi Lash - U11 Girls 4th Place; Riley McCracken - U13 Boys 4th Place; Ashlee Pepper - U15 Girls 5th Place; Karl Letica - U11 Boys 5th Place; Justine Pausch - U13 Girls 7th Place; Max Bailey - U11 Boys 7th Place; and Aishah Lotfy - U13 Girls 8th Place

Most of these players then headed across the Tasman to take part in the Australian Junior Open at Thornleigh, New South Wales.

Huge congratulations to the following for some outstanding results:

Junior Squash Club nights

Our Friday night junior squash nights begin again on Friday 3 May from 4-6pm and run through terms 2 and 3. Remember, these nights are free for all junior members, as these sessions are included in the junior membership fees. The focus is on teaching the basics of squash, and having some fun at the same time. The sessions are run by Manu Yam, NZ Performance Coach of Year in 2018, and racquets are provided for those that don’t have one, but want to give it a try.
